Kate Moore | Physiotherapist Australian Women’s Cricket Team

Kate Moore shares her recent appointment with the Australian Women’s Cricket as the team Physiotherapist, along with her experience at the T20 World Cup.

I have recently been appointed the Australian Women’s Cricket Team Physio. It’s with mixed emotions that I take on this role as it means I will be working full time with Cricket Australia for the next 12 months, which I am very much looking forward to, however I will be stepping away from BODYSYSTEM after 15 years.

Soon after commencing with Cricket Australia in May, I travelled to England with the team for the build up to the T20 World Cup. It was certainly a feeling of being thrown in the deep end considering I had no cricket experience, other than that as a fan of the sport. I soon learnt that the days at cricket can be pretty long with lots of cups of teas and sandwiches but I also learnt that the Australian Women’s Team are outstanding athletes. Throughout the tournament we travelled many, many kilometres between venues, covering much of England and Wales.
“The highlight was making the final at Lords and playing against England in front of a sell out crowd. The team again, played exceptionally well and won their seventh T20 World Cup.”

It was a phenomenal experience celebrating in the changerooms and on the ground late into the night. After nearly seven weeks away, I was pleased to return home to my family and beautiful Hobart. There will be considerable travel in the coming nine months, but I am looking forward to working with the fabulous coaches and support staff involved with the team as well as the athletes. I’m sure there are lots of physio and life lessons to be learnt and I hope to have some truly wonderful experiences.
